Leroy Straker to host financial seminar

MOTIVATIONAL speaker and Author, Leroy Straker, is back.

Come next month, Straker will be presenting a seminar looking at finance and investment. It will be his first for the year 2020 and in a decade.

Mr. Straker has come out of retirement to do this special session as a start to “We Gatherin’ 2020” where he wants patrons to specially prepare financially for the decade ahead.

It is scheduled for Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 4 p.m. at the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union on Belmont Road, St. Michael. Guest speaker will be Attorney-at-law, Mark Forde.

For ten years between January 1999 and 2008, he conducted free financial seminars to the public of Barbados at the Steel Shed before relocating to the Courtney Blackman Grande Salle.

He has told Business Monday that through the years there has been a clarion call for his return to the circuit to enlighten Barbadians on personal financial matters. As such, Straker decided that now is the best time to start again to educate the population since times have gotten tougher and tougher, and money is hard to come.

He explained that the tough times have come about through layoffs, replacements, a tighter market place and in many cases poor spending habits due to lack of financial prudence.

His aim, he explained, is to get people back on track through his personal teaching patterns.

Mr. Straker said that there is so much confusion in society concerning money and the masses lack the financial knowledge, since no one teaches prudent money habits and the youth are lacking in this area since the subject is not on the school’s curriculum.

He is the author of two books “Money Talks... Listen”, which teaches ideas on saving money, building a solid financial future and practising simple strategies that can give total meaning and beauty to life. The second book entitled “Life is full of difficult decisions... Make them” is a motivational publication.

Mr. Straker gives his talks to schools, churches, community groups, PTA’s and service clubs. His message of empowerment resonates with his audiences across the local landscape and his services are sought after on a regular basis. He now conducts his own radio programme on CBC radio 100.7 FM every Thursday. (JB)
