Digicel reconnects customers

Digicel Barbados customers who were disconnected yesterday because of overdue bills should be back in service.

So says Digicel Barbados shareholder and Director Ralph “Bizzy” Williams, who sought to explain that the cuts had been done automatically by the computer system during the normal bill payment period, and not by management.

“Digicel is a company which tries to be the best corporate citizen possible, so a decision has been made with the permission of the Attorney General (Dale Marshall) for our personnel to go back to work so people can have their phones until the end of the shut down period,” he explained.

Williams therefore appealed to those reconnected not to abuse the system by using large amounts of data.

“We are going to do whatever we can to keep persons connected so please do not abuse it,” he said, while speaking on the Down to Brass Tacks programme yesterday.

“I want to assure the Barbadian public that there was no management decision made to turn off people in the middle of this crisis. It was done automatically by the computer system, so we have to take people back to override the system and put customers back into service,” he added.

In an official statement later in the day, the telecommunications company apologised for the inconvenience and assured its customers that due dates would be extended during the national curfew period and no service interruptions would occur until after April 14, 2020.
