BUSINESS MONDAY: Persaud: Develop diaspora bonds

THE Barbados and Caribbean diaspora needs to be engaged in the development of a bond, which can be used to finance infrastructure and any kind of crisis development the region encounters.

In making the suggestion, Invest Caribbean CEO, Dr. Felicia Persaud, said that countries like India and Israel had embarked on similar approaches among their diaspora and with much success.

As such, she maintained that there is no reason why Barbados and the Caribbean diaspora should not go that rout.

India, she pointed out, has had significant success with its diaspora bonds and Israel has been doing similarly with bonds and have in fact been reissuing them since 1951.

She would like to see the creation of a system in the diaspora where “we actually map key entrepreneurs, business owners, and talented people who can help by not only growing our economies, but also a community in the diaspora”.
