St. Leonard’s to defend cricket title

Defending champions St. Leonard’s Secondary School topped Zone A and will face off against Christ Church Foundation School in the Final of the 2019 Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Schools’ Division Championship at the Harrison College ‘A’ ground, Crumpton Street, on November 23, December 1 and 7.

In their final match St. Leonard’s took home three points, thanks to a century from Ethan Welch, which allowed them to declare on 208/6 and then bowl out St. George Secondary for 91 runs to take first innings points after the second innings could not be completed.

St. Leonard’s led the zone after Series 7, taking over the lead from Princess Margaret who were the early leaders in the tournament. However, Princess Margaret had to settle for second place in the zone, six points shy of St. Leonard’s 60 points.

There was a similar battle in Zone B as Milo The Lodge School tried to sneak in over Foundation. The Lodge, who eventually finished second in the zone, took the lead briefly after Series 7, but Foundation bounced back in Series 8 to regain the lead. Beating The Lodge outright at Society, Foundation came away with eight points while The Lodge School got three for first innings.

Trailing by a mere two points going into the final, The Lodge School only managed five points in the final round which was against Coleridge and Parry and only had play on the final day.

But their points were matched by Foundation, who carried off five points over the Alleyne School after similar conditions forced play to be only held on the final day.
