Sada Williams 3rd at Diamond League Final

Barbados Sada Williams turned in yet another outstanding performance to place third in the women’s 400-metres at the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday.
Williams clocked 50.24 secs to narrowly edge out her training partner Jamaica’s Stephenie Ann McPherson who clocked 50.25 secs for fourth place.
The winner was Quanera Haynes of the United States in 49.88 seconds holding off the favourite for the race Marileidy Paulino (49.96) from Dominican Republic.
Williams has had an impressive second half to the year. Since dipping below the 51 second barrier at the Tokyo Olympics she has continued to prove her consistency over the quarter mile event.
Yesterday’s Diamond League Series finals caps off an impressive season for Williams.
Before the Olympics Williams finished sixth in 52.34 secs at Gateshead and had never run below 51 seconds.
She then competed at the Olympics where she was third in her heat in 51.36 secs and then third in the semi-finals with a blistering run from an outside line to clock a national record of 50.11 secs.
Later in August she finished second at Lausanne in 50.77 secs and was second again at the Paris meet two days later this time in 50.30 secs.
In the final yesterday she finished third in 50.24 secs never out of contention for the victory.
