Time capsule to be presented to Museum

In celebration of Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc. (HSFB) will be presenting a time capsule to the Barbados Museum and Historical Society.

Chief Executive Officer of the HSFB, Gina Pitts, explained that contained in the capsule are letters written by patients and staff, in addition to memorabilia and newspaper articles collected over the past year. Also inside are pictures, media releases and a copy of Barbados’ Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases 2016-2019, as well as the Foundation’s reports and financial statements.

It is expected that the time capsule, which will be kept at museum, will be opened in 2041 by the then CEO of the Foundation.

“We hope that it will be something that will be honoured and I am hopeful that having some of the non-communicable diseases strategic plans in there, the statistics and the targets, it would be quite interesting to see if we have met them in 25 years’ time. I have written a letter to my CEO of 2041 explaining some of the challenges that we are having in 2016 hoping and wishing that life has changed quite dramatically in 2041,” stated Pitts, who spoke on the sidelines of Wednesday’s media briefing at the museum to announce the initiative.

Also during these proceedings, there was the signing of the book “50 Barbadian Sporting Greats 1966-2016”. This was signed by squash player Mark Sealy; and windsurfer Brian “De Action Man” Talma.

Managing Director of Hiltop Publications Limited, Pamela Hiles, highlighted that the book was done by her husband, J. Clarence Hiles, who suffered a stroke after he completed the text. He was assisted on his road to recovery by personnel of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc., and it was decided that from each book sold a contribution will be made to that organisation.
