Windies and South Africa’s second ODI abandoned due to rain

AFTER countless rain interruptions the second Sandals International Series One Day International match between the Windies Women and South Africa women was forced to be abandoned at 3:45 p.m. at Kensington Oval yesterday.

Windies women won the toss and chose to field in a match was reduced to 43 overs a side by the time both teams stepped on the field.

The match started over two hours late due to a wet outfield and rain and both team were fielding an unchanged squad for the contest.

Having stumbled to 85 runs for the loss of four wickets South Africa managed to recover thanks to a 67-tun fifth wicket partnership between Dane Van Neikerk and Chloe Tryon.

But with the innings being interrupted by rain, South Africa rhythm may not have been what they liked and partnership was broken up by a run out as Van Neikerk was short of her ground and had to leave after scoring 53 runs.

Before the Windies women could reply to the target set by South Africa the rain had the final say putting a stop to play after two hours and 25 minutes of play.
