Warriors remain unbeaten thanks to D/L victory over Tridents

The match between the unbeaten Guyana Warriors and the home team Barbados Tridents was always going to be a tricky game as the rain had fallen for most of the day.

This may have influenced the Warriors choice to send the Tridents in to bat when they won the toss.

Warriors eventually won thanks to the Duckworth/Lewis by 12 runs.

The Tridents started off well despite the lights pulsing on the light tower but were losing wickets at regular intervals, which limited their score to 138 when they were bowled out in the final over. Jean-Paul Duminy top scored with 38 runs from 32 balls.

Racing along at over seven runs an over, the Tridents were also losing wickets at a steady rate which may have hampered their progress. At the start of the 19th over they were 127/8 with two new batsmen in the middle.

The undoing of the Tridents batting order was man of the match Chris Green who took four wickets for 14 runs which was a career best.

The last two wickets falling in the final over to Green who took the final himself as it was a caught and bowled off a skied ball by Sandeep Lamichhane. One of the Green’s wickets included the prize mark of Duminy just as he was looking to accelerate.

Having played four games and with four points the Tridents were hoping to make-up some ground but it was the second innings that the rain played a major role after staying away for the entire first innings.
As fast as the Warriors had started as they reached 43/0 in five overs they were still below what the Tridents had achieved at that time but ahead of Duckworth Lewis par score.

Captain of the Tridents Jason Holder started off with the ball with an excellent spell while runs were leaking from the other end as Josh Lalor and Sandeep Lamichhane were sent to all ends of the park.
Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj kept the Warriors ahead of the Duckworth Lewis par score and when the first rain stoppage came they were well ahead on 77/2.

The rain and wind came down hard and many thought the game would have been called off but the players and official took to the field the revised target was 97 runs and four overs to be bowled.

This left the game well in the hands of the Warriors who had 20 runs to score from the 24 deliveries.

But only one over was bowled and then umpire Langton Rusere tipped the bails and called for the covers. However, it left some of the players puzzled as the rain was light and they didn’t want to leave the field. All of the Tridents players stayed on the field for another five minutes before finally leaving the field reluctantly.

This gave the Warriors victory by 12 runs and a berth into the next round of the competition. CG)
