Joint winners Red House and Blue House celebrating at the end of yesterday’s event.

Two take home the title at Blackman and Gollop

THE persistence of defending champions Purple House Panthers did not pay off this time around as they made way for a very special occurrence yesterday at the end of the annual Blackman and Gollop Primary School Inter-House Sports.

After winning both the Infants and Senior school meets in 2019 and repeating as champions at the Infants school level this past Thursday, the Panthers were relegated to third place at the school grounds as the Sapphire House Blue Bolts and the Garnet House (Red) Blazing Tigers crossed the line together as joint champions.

With Red House leading for most of the day, Blue came up to scratch to see both teams ending the meet on 259 points. Purple came home with 230, while the Green House Giants rounded out the day on 201.

Red House (191) led the event up until the last two individual events, which saw Blue House (199) picking up just what they needed to see them ahead by just eight points before the start of the relay events. Purple were on 156 and Green on 139 before the team races, which saw the lead jostled around by the end of every single race with the score being tied on two occasions before the final race.

The day belonged to the Under-9 athletes as Rakylah Olliverre of Red House led the pack with wins in the 80-metre, the 100 and the 150-metre. Her male counterpart was Daniko Harris of Green House and he knocked off the same events to take home the top spot in the division.

Purple House got in on some of the action and Sadiya Edwards had solid performances in the 200-metre (1st), 300-metre (1st) and the 100 (2nd) to take the top spot in the Under-11 Girls. Blue House’s Jaiden Alleyne had similar luck in the Under-11 Boys after finishing first in the 100 and 300-metre and fourth in the 200-metre.

At the top of the school, it was Ri-Anne Maloney of Green with wins in the 100 and 200-metre events. The Under-13 Boys’ title without a doubt went to Jazzair Best. Despite being one of the smaller competitors, this little engine that could made a clean sweep of the 100 and 200-metre events and finished fourth in the 400-metre.
