Tridents gunning for wins in remaining games of WIFA competition

If they intend to deliver on their promise to bring home some hardware from the Windward Islands Football Association Tournament, the Bajan Tridents have their work cut out for them. Now two games into the competition, the local lads have just one point after picking up a draw most recently against Grenada.

Playing at Victoria Park in St. Vincent on Monday night, the Tridents and the Spice Boys broke even after neither team was able to score. With rains wreaking havoc on the grass field in the nation’s capital, the conditions proved tough for both sides as several chances went abegging during both halves of the encounter.

Speaking to The Barbados Advocate after the game, Barbados Football Association Technical Director, Ahmed Mohamed said that he still had hopes for the team. “Everything is positive. The only thing missing is that final bit of luck. We are getting the opportunities; the team is confident and fit, we are mentally strong and playing offensive football. We are just not scoring. In our last game the pitch was a bit unfavourable for us. We are not used to playing on this type of surface and it has taken longer than we thought to adjust to the conditions. However, the plan is to win the remaining games.” he said.

In the opening game this past Friday, the Bajans went down 2-0 to the hosts after goals from Chavel Cunningham and Azinho Solomon. With two games left, the Tridents will take on St. Lucia today and Dominica on Friday.
