Top teams clean up in Old Boys League
Defending champions Bayland Masters and current leaders Diamond Park hauled in ten unanswered goals on Saturday night as the action in the 2020 Over 40s Old Boys League Football Invitational Tournament continued. Playing at the Empire Ground in Bank Hall, both teams added another three points to their tallies to see them sitting pretty at the top of the table.
Bayland Masters pulled themselves back into second place over Royalty Ballers with a whopping 6-0 win over Mavericks Sports Club in the first of two games. The goal-fest was opened by John “Nobby” Parris in the fifth minute while Elwyn Oxley showed he was good for much more than spiking volleyballs with a brace of goals (16th and 55th).
Former national striker Llewellyn Riley netted a hat-trick after beating the Mavericks custodian in the 23rd, 25th and 44th minutes. Wesley Alleyne got his name on the cards for the fifth goal in the 53rd minute.
Diamond Park picked up their tenth win in 11 games with a 4-0 routing of Royalty Ballers who missed out on the opportunity to go to the top of the standings. Jefferson White was first out of the blocks when he scored in just the 2nd minute of play. Ian Burke added a second in the 25th, while Ryan Grimes made it 3-0 in the 34th. The final nail in the coffin was struck in the 57th by Oneal Williams.
At present, Diamond Park have 30 points from 10 wins and a loss in their 11 games. Bayland Masters (28) have nine wins, a draw and two losses from 12 games to see them to their tally.
Royalty Ballers are just one point behind on 27 with Saturday’s loss counting as their second. They have nine wins from 11 games. Carlton ATP have also played 11 games but have six wins, two draws and three losses for 20 points.
Mavericks round out the top-five in the league with five wins and seven losses in their 12 games for 15 points.
