THE defending champions either did just that or took home podium finishes yesterday when the 2020 Barbados Cycling Union National Time Trial came off at Lucas Street, St. Philip. With five categories being contested on the day, three of last year’s winners were able to do the double.

In the Women’s category, last year’s winner Krissi McKenney of Team Cockspur had to settle for second with 34.01 minutes. Top honours this time went to Amber Joseph of World Cycling Centre in a time of 31.59 minutes. Amy Cox of Team Sonics clocked 36.35 for third.

The 50+ Masters saw Wayne Edwards (31.54) posting the quickest time while last year’s winner, Gregory Austin was good for 32.22 minutes in second place. Another Wayne, this time Cummins, was third with 34.11 minutes while fourth place went to Miguel Skinner of Team Plus Swift with 34.51 minutes.

Junior Proverbs of Team Plus Swift was the winner in the 35-49 Masters category last year, but he had to hold out for fourth place yesterday in their three-lap run of the course. He finished with 53.13 minutes to round out the top-four. Things were tight in that class as Randy Licorish was the man of the day, taking the title with 52.17. Second was Ian Maynard with 52.28 and Wingrove Thomas of Team Sonics was third in 52.34 minutes.

Category 1 saw Joshua Kelly of Team SIB comfortably repeating with 43.47. Russell Elcock was next nearest in a time of 44.43 minutes. Third place went to Jacob Kelly, also of Team SIB and he clocked 48.34, while fourth place belonged to Shakeil Walker (49.33) of Team Sonics.
