Titus takes it all

There was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Danielle Titus would be the one to take the coveted Outstanding Senior Female award on this past Sunday evening when
the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association hosted it’s annual award ceremony. With the Radisson Aquatica Resort serving as the backdrop the young swimmer was a shoe-in for the honour as she racked up many other awards on the night.

Adding a red-letter 2017 to her list of achievements thus far, Titus continues to make waves at home and abroad as she won category after category during the ceremony. Easily the most-decorated swimmer this year, the Harrison College student carted off awards for her efforts at every major event outside of Barbados including CARIFTA Championships, capped off by taking the Leah Martindale Trophy, Central America and Caribbean (CCCAN), Commonwealth and World Juniors.

Showing up almost as many times as her was Jack Kirby as he earned himself quite a bit of hardware on the night, inclusive of the Victor Norville Memorial for the Most Outstanding swim by a local athlete during CARIFTA Championships. Olympian Alex Sobers was also in the winnings, picking up several awards as well as the Most Outstanding Senior Male.

With other disciplines brought into the spotlight such as Open Water Swimming, Water Polo and the recently renamed Artistic Swimming (Synchronised Swimming), young local athletes were all honoured for their stellar performances throughout 2017. (MP)
