Test captain Jason Holder always part of short format set up

West Indies Test captain Jason Holder has always been in the set up for the limited overs version of the game.

This was the assertion from coach of the West Indies Phil Simmons who spoke to the media during a virtual press conference yesterday.

Simmons pointed out that his exclusion last year during the tours for England and New Zealand was because of the short turn around from the different formats and they chose to prioritize the Test match for the Test captain.

Holder has appeared on the squad for all three formats of the game with his all round ability in the game.

Also included are some new faces and Simmons said he is excited not only about the bowling aspect of the two additions in Akeal Hosein and Kevin Sinclair but also the energy he has seen them bring on the field.

It means they have been doing something that has interested us in the format that they have been chosen for said the coach.

However though there are three T20 games scheduled Simmons said that they don’t have plans to rotate the team in order to see everyone as their priority is also to win the series.

The key to winning the series will be “how we can limit their batsmen and how much we can assess the game as soon as possible,” said Simmons, as in the short format of the games there are batsmen who can hit the ball right down the order.

With a long summer of home tours ahead, Simmons said that they will look at each series as it comes as everyone knows that though there is a goal in mine there is also a process in order to reach it. (CG)
