Team Rubis thrills NSC campers

Some of the students under this year’s National Sports Council Summer Camp got an opportunity to get up close and personal with a rally car when two-time Rally Barbados champions Jeffrey Panton and Michael Fennell of Jamaica paid them a visit at the National Stadium.

With back-to-back wins in the prestigious competition in 2015 and 2016, the Rubis-sponsored team were back on island again and took some time out to give the youngsters a taste of rally action.

The campers got a chance to take a look under the hood, received signed posters and were even treated to a short run on the cycle track which whipped them all into a frenzy as Panton masterfully controlled his Ford Focus RS WRC.

Speaking to members of the media, Marketing Manager of Rubis, Andrea Gooding explained that the visit was merely a way for the company to give something back to the community.

“This was the second year in a row that we won Rally Barbados and we really like to get out in the community. They came back last year and did something similar but that was during school time, so it was a great opportunity for them to come to Barbados again really just to come out and meet with the customers. We are doing an event at one of our stations this evening but more importantly, we wanted to come out and meet the kids and it is a great way for the children to interact, find out some information about the car and meet the drivers, it’s a great time we are having here today,” Gooding said.
