Success for Variety Row Charity despite early rain

Hundreds of people gathered for the Variety 17th Annual Row for Charity Event yesterday at Harbour Lights.

Despite the early morning rain this annual fundraising event staged by the Variety Club of Barbados the Children charity saw 22 teams that took to the water for the for the kayak relay race, which had six legs.

The teams for the kayak races consisted of 12 members – two of which had to be female – and there was also a team competition for the "Fun Fitness Challenge" which took place before the kayak race and those teams had to consist of four
persons – one of which had to be female.

There were two divisions for the kayak race, the “Motor Maniacs” and the “Wind Warriors”, the relay started at Harbour Lights and went to the Yacht Club buoy. The second and fourth legs went from the Yacht Club buoy to the Boatyard buoy and the third and fifth legs went from the Boatyard buoy to the Yacht Club buoy. The sixth and final leg went from the Yacht Club buoy to the Boatyard buoy and back to the finish at Harbour Lights.

Winners of the Motor Maniacs was iMart, while Oceans in Motion was second and Koopa Troopers came in third. The winner of the Wind Warriors was the Torpedoes (the Maria Holder Memorial Trust), while Jada Jammers/Sandals were second and St. Gabriel’s Sea Scouts were third. (CG)
