Skinner exceeds expectations to take a fifth

There seems to be no stopping the Superstars of Skinner House (Light Blue) as they rounded out yet another stellar performance to come home with a fifth straight title in the Alexandra School Inter-house Athletic Championships.

Hosted at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex yesterday, the defending champions cleaned up shop to end the day with 853.6 points to lead the other four home.

Arnold House Blue Thunder were the next nearest team in the race and they came in with 767.6 points. The Frederick House Spartans (Red) were the last team to win back in 2015 and they got over the line in third with 649.6, while the Lysons House Green Machines put up 609.2. O’Neal House Diamonds (Yellow) brought up the rear with 532.8 points.

Despite coming away with the most points, Skinner House could not put the win down to any one performance as none of their athletes ended as division champions. The Victor Ludorum title went to Kimani Greaves of Arnold House after he racked up 71 points between events at the school and at the Cave Hill Campus facility. He took Gold in the Under-17 400 metre with a time of 54.19 seconds, the 800 metre in 2:29.74 minutes and the Long Jump with 5.78 metres. He did not stop there as he was second in 200 and 1500 metre events and the Javelin.

The top girl came from Arnold as well and Serena Jackman amassed 70 points to take home the Under-20 championship. She had a much better time as she was first in all her track events with 6:37.09 in the 1500 metre, 3:36.90 in the 800 metre, 1:03.44 in the 400 metre, 27.13 in the 200 and 13.01 in the 100 metre. She also took a second place in the Long Jump behind Lysons’ Shanice Hutson (4.33m) with a leap of 4.05 metres.

The best boy at the Under-20s was Tyrique Johnson of the Spartans (41) and he was good for wins in the 200 and 400 metre events while taking a second in the 800 metre and a third in the 1500 metre. His 400 performance was a record-breaking one as he clocked 50.93 to leave a new mark

In the Under-17 Girls’, Rayna Cummins of Frederick House was the champion with 64 points. The national footballer won the 800 metre at the school and came in second in the 400 and 1500 metre events and the Javelin. She also got points for finishing third in the 100, 200, Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put to end with podium spots in all of her events.

Arnold House continued to stack up the division champions and Raheem Denny added his name to the list by winning the Under-15 200 and coming second in the 100, 400 and 800 metre events, all on the way to 39 points. His female counterpart was Ashlyn Simmons (44), also from Arnold, and she claimed Gold in the 400, 800 and 1500 metre events, while she was third in the 200. She too knocked off a record by running 59.56 in the 400.

Arnold House took both Under-13 titles with Jamira Worrell getting up to 50 points to lead the girls. She had nothing but podium finishes, coming first in the 200 metre and second in the 100, 400, 800, Long Jump and Shot Put. Romario Johnson ended with 42 points after a first place in the 800 metre and silver in the 100, 200, 400 and Long Jump.

Although he did not amass enough points to be in the running for a division championship, Rick Williams can still boast that he made his mark on the meet as he broke two records coming into yesterday’s action.

Running both the Under-20 800 and 1500 metre events at the school, Williams blasted the old ties away to leave 4:38.15 minutes in the 1500 and 2:09.50 in the 800.

Skinner House also made a new mark of 45.30 in the Under-20 Boys’ 4X100 metre relay.ﾞ
