Saturday is Massy United Insurance raceday

Come Saturday, the Garrison Savannah will be a hive of activity as nine very competitive races are carded for the day.

The feature race will be race eight – the Massy United Insurance Barbados Derby (GR.1R. -BAR)  for West Indian Bred 3-year-olds, going 2000 metres, and carrying a total purse of $102 850. Colts and Geldings take 124 pounds while fillies take 119 pounds.

Eleven horses have taken entry, including the Pinnacle Feeds Midsummer Classic winner, Northern Star, who looks like he has improved even further since winning that race. Also entered is the Barbados Guineas winner Stephen Allan, but he has not raced for over three months, so there seems to be a bit of a cloud hanging over him at this stage. The filly, Daddy’s Wish, who was in a close finish with Northern Star in the Pinnacle Feeds Classic, is also entered, and she seems to be on the return to the early form she showed as a two-year-old.

The supporting feature on the card, is race six, The T.A. ‘Tommy” Peirce Memorial Trophy (Condition Race) for 3-year-olds and older rated 140 and below, going 1570 metres.

Sandy Lane Gold Cup Winner, Dorsett, who has been allotted 128 pounds heads the list of nine runners entered. The very quick, Just A Fashion, also in at 128 pounds, is also entered, as is the improved, Indiano Jones and the game little creole Sirius Black.
