Thousands of school children will be the beneficiaries of a new Road Safety Programme put on by the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW). Speaking at a lecture held by the MTW in celebration of the country’s Golden Jubilee, Minister Michael Lashley conveyed the intentions of the ministry through the programme.

He stated that road safety is of paramount importance to the Ministry and this message should first be conveyed to the youth. Additionally, he noted that a Road Safety Council has already been established as the MTW
Deputy Chair has informed the public.

The lecture was one of the many activities planned by the ministry to celebrate 50 years of Independence. The first of these was a family Fun Day and sometime soon, there will be a four-day exhibit of MTW then and now. The minister promises that the event will be a nostalgic one, especially for those persons over 40.

To this end, Lashley stated that he would like to see the continuous work of the MTW being documented as the ministry has played a pivotal role in the infrastructural development of Barbados. Furthermore, Lashley also acknowledged those who work in Traffic Management, Road Building and Maintenance for their contributions over the years.
