Randy completes two rides, third loop postponed

Cyclist Randy Licorish was able to complete two loops around the island over two days, but his third ride will be postponed until the weather improves.

On Saturday, Barbadians woke up to an overcast sky, but a determined cyclist Randy Licorish rode on, even as he encountered the first effects of the La Soufrière’s eruption.

As light ash fell on his shoulders, he did his best to finish his mission of Ride for Lives.

On Friday morning at Freights Bay, Christ Church, Licorish, surrounded by supporters, family, and friends of Melanie Watts, started his ride around Barbados. The 6 a.m. exercise was a part of the campaign to sensitise Barbadians about the importance of road safety and the cyclists who lost their lives earlier this year.

Licorish was aiming to ride three loops around the island, a loop a day (325 km) starting at 6 a.m. The ride starts from Freights Bay, Christ Church, moving northerly in a clockwise direction.

Vice President of the Barbados Cycling Union (BCU), Livingston Headley, told The Barbados Advocate the last leg of the ride will be completed at a later date, hopefully next weekend at the same time and location.
