Ramona Morgan back with a bang

Ramona Morgan has made her return to the sport with a bang as she won the Miss Barbados title in the Ladies Body Fitness on Saturday.

Morgan took a year away from competition to develop in areas which she wanted to improve, and  mentioned that even if she  wanted to compete last year she would not have been able to, as she picked up a lower back injury.

Despite this setback, she was able to make the improvements she wanted and said it feels great to once again claim the coveted title.

However, there was hush over the crowd as master of ceremonies for the night, Andrew Sealy, announced Morgan as the second place winner, and Lynette Thompson first. Sealy then corrected his error after Morgan had already placed the second place medal around her neck; and she was awarded the winning trophy for Ladies Body Fitness under 163 cm.

Third was Rashida Gill who also won the Ladies Junior Body Fitness title.

In the Ladies Body Fitness over 163 cm, last year’s CAC winner Dionne Thompson had to settle for second place as Tamesha Lewis carried off the title, with Rean Gibson third.

But it was Morgan who defeated Lewis in the battle for the Miss Barbados title and will now set her sights on CAC as she looks to maintain her form for the championships.

In the Ladies Physique, Ronda Browne was the winner over second place Julia Davis and Deidre Archer.

In a historic moment, Men’s Classic Physique took to the stage with Hugo Greaves, Andre Bascombe and Nicholas Best entered. Seen as the bridge between Men’s Physique and Bodybuilding, Classic involves less poses than the bodybuilding and contestants wear black trunks.

The inaugural winner was Greaves with Bascombe finishing second and Best third.

The popular Ladies Bikini and Men’s Physique saw the most competitors on the night.

Taking the Men’s Physique title was Hadley Hoyte who has won the short class at CAC.

Hoyte first moved into the championship round by winning his class over Marlon Dottin who was second; Andrew Mason third; and Kenrick Brome fourth.

Hoyte then waited as first Jamil Jones won the Men’s Physique less than 178 cm from Julian Belgrave and Kirk Bovell; Ryan Haynes won his class from Michael Thompson and Jemar Small; and Ricardo Todd won the tall class from Jason Branch and Jermaine Reynolds.

In the pose off for the Mr Barbados Physique title, it was Hoyte who came away with the crown.

In the Ladies Bikini there was an impressive 28  competitors across the various categories.

Shakira Doughlin successfully defended her title, first winning from a field of 11 competitors in the Ladies Bikini under 166 cm. Doughlin won from Natasha Joseph and Janesia Pitt in the
class.

The under 163 cm was won by the popular Melissa Burrowes who defeated Janelle Murray and Waynel Lynch.

The Ladies Junior Bikini class was won by Akelia Prescod who also won the Ladies Bikini under 169cm.

The Tall class was won by Lana Richards who edged out Natalie Webb and Karen Perch.

In the championship round it was Doughlin who came away victorious.
