Rain only allows four matches in BCA T20 Cup

 

 

 

 

 

 

Only four matches were able to be played yesterday as the rain once again had a major role to play in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Elite/Division 1 Twenty 20 Cup competition.

Gladiola remains the only team with full points after they record their sixth consecutive victory.

Playing Yorkshire at Rices in St. Philip, Gladiola was set a target of 77 for victory in a game that was reduced to ten overs a side and started at 4 p.m.

Gladiola lost their captain Jevon Searles who was caught on the boundary for a duck and the score was 22/2 after three overs.

Then Ashley Nurse and Martin Nurse teamed up in the middle with some hard hitting. Ashley leading the way with 34 runs off just 19 deliveries and Martin finishing on 23 runs also from 19 deliveries.

In the end it only took eight overs for Gladiola to reach the target finishing on 79/3 to register a seven-wicket victory.

Isolation Cavaliers was also in winners row as the defeated Lords by 30 runs at the KMV Oval in St. Andrew.

This match was reduced to 12 overs per side and bowled off at 3:45 p.m. due to some wet spots on the pitch and concerns about the bowlers run ups.

Cavaliers posted a total of 101/8 off their 12 overs led by Adrian Ward who finished on 44 runs off 32 balls which included two boundaries and two sixes.

In reply Lords could only get up to 71/5 off their 12 overs as they needed 36 runs off the last over which was bowled by Khalil Herbert.

At Kensington Oval the Barbados Youth A squad was led by Hakeem Perryman and Shaqkere Parris who shared in a 62-run opening partnership as they chased a target of 116 for victory against Pickwick.

Perryman finished on 65 runs which included five fours as he reached his second half century of the tournament.

The Barbados Youth A finished on 116/2 with three overs to go in the only full length 20 over match of the day.

Batting first Pickwick scored 115/6 off their 20 overs with an unbeaten knock of 52 runs from Yvan Grant.

In the shortest match of the evening Empire fell to BDFSP at Bank Hall by four runs. The match was reduced to five overs a side and started at 4:40 p.m.

BDFSP batted first and got up to 35/5 off their five overs. In reply it looked like Empire had it measured just right with them needing 11 runs from 11 balls after a hefty shot for four by Jabarry Yard for four.

However, as the two batsmen Kofi Hurdle and Yarde were trying to hit everything for a maximum, Hurdle was advancing down the pitch and missed three consecutive ball which ended up being dot balls.

This left Empire needing ten runs from six balls and BDFSP selected Antonio Greenidge to bowl the final over.

Greenidge started with a short ball which picked up the wicket of Yarde caught at short third man and Empire needed ten runs from five balls.

Hurdle was at the striking end as they crossed while the ball was in the air. After a near run out while scampering two runs, Hurdle allowed a ball to go past thinking it was a wide but it was not.

Empire needed six runs from two deliveries and it was all but over as they eventually finished on finished on 31/3 and short of the target by five runs.
