Queen’s College rolling in School’s Junior Basketball

Things are looking good for Queen’s College as they copped their third win of the Co-operators General Insurance Junior U-16 Basketball League Competition, dismissing the efforts of Alexandra 71-19.

It was tough going for Alexandra against the fire power of Queen’s College (QC) and by halftime the writing was already on the court with the score standing at 39-10. Behind the solid performances of Nicolo Sinclair and Godfrey July who put up 18 and 12 points respectively, QC scored a further 32 points in the second half to propel them to an emphatic 52 point victory. The shining light in the game for Alexandra was Kaliel Austin who finished with 10 points in the matchup.

Defending champions Harrison College matched QC’s performance to also win their third straight game to remain unbeaten in the competition. Playing against Foundation School, Harrison College were already leading by 44 points (56-12) after two quarters at home. Though Foundation improved in the second half of the game to score 17 points, College also put the pedal to floor to dominate the game further and win the game 84-29.

The 55 point victory shows that HC means business and are looking to successfully defend their title. HC’s Simeon Maynard was the top scorer in the game with 16 points while Justin Bayley and Kyrone Alexander had 14 each. It was a full team effort for HC as Chikosi Boardi finished with 12 and Jason Stepney to round out 5 players in double figures. Foundation’s top players were Delano Waithe with 10 and Christian Harris with 8.

In other matchups Combermere went down to Graydon Sealy 43-21 after a 14-9 halftime tally and Ellerslie took down St. Leonard’s Boys 36-25.

The competition in this year’s tournament promises to be a good one with Queen’s College looking like they will cause a problem for HC. However it is not a two team race with Graydon Sealy standing on 3 wins and no losses to hold the same record as the defending champs. (AS)
