Police manhandle Challengers

It was a rough time for Challengers Seniors as they went down to Police 62-38 in a one sided affair in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division Competition.

Playing at the Baysteet courts, the lawmen had their way with the boys from Culloden and started the assault from the first quarter of the game. Police outscored them 20-8 but let the foot off the gas in a low scoring second quarter where the Challengers maintained their poor form to see the quarter end with the both teams scoring below 10 (6-8).
Coming into the third with the score still in their favour at 26-16, just 10 points ahead of the opponents, the law started to push the pace again to finally put the game out of the reach of Challengers. They went on to have their best quarter of the game, scoring 28 points in the period for a thorough thrashing. Challengers once again maintained their pace and scored 10 for the quarter.

It didn’t get much better in the final quarter of the game even though the visitors outscored Police 12-9. The game was well out of reach by then and Police was cruising and having fun while waiting for the clock to expire.

For Police Nicholas Williams had the game high top score of 15 points in a good all-round performance on the night. He had good support from Junior Small who ended with a tally of 15, while big man Samuel Boyce dominated the paint as usual, using his strength to his advantage to rack up 8 points. The Challenger’s bright spark of the night was Adrian Bynoe with 13 points with Antoine Yearwood having a quiet night of 8 after the thirty point barrage in his previous game.

Challengers Seniors will face Belfield Seniors on Saturday at the Barbados Community College at 6:00 p.m. in a clash of the oldsters. Police are slated to play the next day at the same venue, Sunday at 2 p.m. in the first game of the day. (AS)
