Pinelands and Lakers trod on

 

Orange 3 Pinelands and the Lakers Sports Clubs have secured their place in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Knockout Semi-finals this Thursday.
 
Playing at the YMCA courts, the Pine and Lakers will face off for the rights to play in the Finals game in two weeks. Lakers got past Dover Chargers in the Quarter-finals last Thursday, 79-74. Chargers were up 10 at the end of the first quarter but the Lakers cut the lead to 1 point by halftime (39-38).
 
Pinelands had two closes matchups in the second round and quarters. 
 
Playing against Pharmaceutical Plus Mayhill in the second round, Pinelands were able to finished strong for a 5 point victory (62-57) after leading by 31-22 at the half. Rasheed Maynard finished with 15 points and Chris Holder had 11. Nicholas Wiltshire added 8 points as his contribution while Kiesierian Adams scored 6. For Mayhill, four players scored in double figures in their valiant attempt to move on. Whitneal George top scored with 16 points and sharp shooter Cleo Hurley finished with 13. Big man Dave John and Gregg Scantlebury scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
 
It was an even closer matchup in the Quarterfinal game against Police Sports Club. Police led most of the game and were up 1 after the first quarter (14-13) and up 4 at the half (28-24). It was a second half fight by the Pine which saw them take the nail biting win by one basket (60-58) by the final whistle to see them claim the semi-final spot.
 
Lakers are a formidable veteran side but the Pine are a team who are filled with talented youngsters with the heart and will to win. It will be a grand show down at the YMCA on Thursday to see whether experience will conquer share will. (AS)
