Mystery in U13 Cricket standings

IT appears that teams in the preliminary rounds of the Barbados Cricket Association’s Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 Competition have been on the receiving end of some puzzling penalties.
Frederick Smith and St. Leonard’s Boys have been placed down the standings for what a press release from the BCA referenced, ‘points included a game won by default, as per the Special Conditions of Play’.
Though the run rate of the declared Zone C winners Milo Lodge was not revealed, it was said that Lodge was adjudged the Zone winner as a result of Frederick Smith’s victory by default.
Luckily, Frederick Smith stilled qualified for the quarter finals which were played on Friday May 6.
However, St. Leonard’s was not as fortunate as it pushed them into third place in Zone D and out of the quarter finals.
What remains a puzzle is the fact that St. Leonard’s was shown to have a superior run rate to that of the Alleyne School who advanced to the next round.
In Zone D, Alexandra, Alleyne and St. Leonard’s all finished on 12 points with Alexandra winning the Zone with a +3.736 run rate. Alleyne should have been third with their run rate at +1.396 and St. Leonard’s second with +1.477, but this was not the case.
It appears that Frederick Smith and St. Leonard’s have been penalised for something that is not their fault and for which they had no control over, and despite being awarded the points they have suffered at the end of the preliminary rounds.
Unfortunately the exact article for which the decision has been made, was not referred to other than for the release to say ‘as per the Special Conditions of Play.’
A further explanation should be revealed in regards to this mystery.
