LEE Knight is the 2017 Barbados Ninja Showdown champion.

Competing over the weekend at the second edition of the competition, held at Featherbed Lane, St. John, Knight first had to sit and watch a number of athletes fail at their attempts to complete the course, which was featuring two new obstacles this year.

The River Bay Log and the Pico Teneriffe Climb were added just before the Mount Hillaby warped wall, and Knight conquered the course in a time of three minutes, 11.16 seconds, to claim the top prize of $4 000 in front of a huge crowd.

Unlike last year, when the decision for the winner was relatively easy, as only one competitor managed to make it to the end, this year there were three that pressed the horn at the top of Mount Hillaby.

23-year-old Knight made it look easy, and many thought his time would be hard to beat but not impossible when he missed his first attempt at the Warped Wall.

But competitor after competitor failed to make it past either the BDF Vertical Batons, or the Flying Fish Ladder, until Demron Thompson made it past the Flying Fish ladder despite a small hiccup.

Thompson then made his way around Pico Teneriffe Climb, which saw him swing from one hand at one stage. However, he completed the course in three minutes 57:78 seconds, which placed him in second place.

Thorn Wood was the other competitor who made it to the end. Wood had a technical problem the first time he took to the course, and the officials decided to let him have another chance at it at the end.

Wood, who also competed last year, made it through the course in four minutes 17.78 secs.

In the Junior section, which had a shorter course to complete, 17-year-old Malacki Mayers walked off with the top prize of $4 000, while Jadon Brome was second and Kyan Toppin third. (CG)
