Layne, Redman among winners in Courtesy Garage Golf Medal

Walter Redman and Jon Layne were among the divisional winners when the Courtesy Garage September Monthly Medal tournament was contested last weekend at the Barbados Golf Club.

They all collected trophies and vital points in the race towards the year-end championship play-off, while also distinguishing themselves in a competitive field of 60 players.

In a tournament that featured an 8 a.m. shotgun start, on the challenging Durants course, Redman posted a net 62 to emerge winner in the 13 and Over Handicap category, while Layne took the Seniors’ division with a net 68.

Gordon Walker (70) was second in the Seniors’ division while Wayne Boucher (72) was second among the 13 and Over players.

Among the low-handicappers (0-12), national player Dawn Bispham edged Danny Cumberbatch by a stroke, posting a net 71. Both Cumberbatch and Mark Blakeley shot a net 72 and were separated by the count-back system.

Barbados junior player, Eryn Blakeley (net 79), was also a narrow winner over Zerina Belgrave (net 80) in claiming the Women’s division.

Bispham collected a second prize while registering the best gross score of the day, a one-over par 73.

Monthly medal tournaments are being sponsored by Courtesy Garage for the second year running, through their Nissan and Hyundai brands, and players are being awarded points for top three finishes.

Tournament Director, Mike Jackman, disclosed that another three medal tournaments are to be contested and the top six players in each of the four divisions will qualify for a year-end play-off to determine the overall champions for 2017.
