Kolij Juniors go down to Challengers

The Kolij Lions Seniors went down again in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division league, losing to the Challengers Sports Club Seniors 53-70.

However, it was not the worst game of the season for Kolij as they were able to score in double digits for each of the four quarters of the game. The youngsters played a little above par of their usual performance in the tournament in which they average about 48 points a game. After tallying 12 points in the first and second quarters, they found themselves down 15 at the half 24-39.

Challengers were scoring fast break points easily and points in the paint via Antoine Yearwood and Alex Clarke. Clarke had the game high total of 23 by the end of the game.

Yearwood, who has been the leading scorer for Challengers throughout the season, finished with 21 but it was a 12 point second half that helped the Challengers to keep things flowing.

While Challengers were enjoying easy baskets, the young lions were having a more challenging time scoring. One of the brighter stars for Kolij was Christian Holder who was working hard on the offensive and defensive end, and ended the game with 21 points. Kolij had a great final quarter, scoring 18 hard earned points, almost matching Challengers.

In the end though, the opposition came out on top to win by 17 points.

Besides Clarke and Yearwood, Adrian Bynoe and Junior Wilson gave good contributions with 12 and nine points respectively.

For Kolij, Dale McCollin scored nine and Runako Boyce six. (AS)
