Aiden Moore was untouchable on the day as he produced stellar performances to take home the Victor Ludorum title.

King House finally crowned at Wilkie Cumberbatch

After reigning supreme for the better part of a decade at Wilkie Cumberbatch, Hurley House (Yellow) was relegated to second place when the institution held their annual athletic championships yesterday at the National Stadium.

Coming to the fore for the first time in many years, King House (Green) dominated the day to walk away winners with 957.5 points.

Coming to the stadium with the lead after field events, Green House got their biggest challenge from the defending champions who chased them all the way to the end to finish 30 points behind (927.5). Williams House (Blue) was good for third place with 871.5 points, while Payne House (Red) brought up the rear on 845.5.

The aptly-named King House rode to victory on the back of solid performance from Victor Ludorum Aiden Moore. The Under-9 champion gave his team 53 points from his five events.

Despite placing eighth in the Cricket Ball Throw, Moore bounced back to win the Long Jump, the 80 metre, the 150 metre and the Open Boys’ 400 metre.

Proving that the strength was coming from the junior school, Moore's female counterpart was Blue House's Ashari Brathwaite. She copped top spot in the Under-11 Girls’ division with wins in the 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre, and the Open Girls’ 400 metre to help her to 57.5 points.

With the division champions being spread across the houses, King got another one in Annika Morris-Buntin. The spritely Under-9 racked up 46 points with wins in the Long Jump, 80 metre and 150 metre. She had a third-place finish in the Girls’ Open 400 metre.

The Under-11 Boys’ title went to Payne's Nicholi Cox. He had a perfect performance with wins in all his events. He competed in the Long Jump, 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre.

Payne House was home to the Under-13 Girls’ champion, Shontal Jacobs. With only two wins to her name, she was able to amass a whopping 47 points. Her gold medals came in the 400 metre and the Girls’ Open 600 metre. Third-place finishes in the Cricket Ball Throw and 200 metre, a fifth place in the 100 metre and a sixth in the Long Jump saw Jacobs making up major ground to edge out Ashley Corbin of Hurley House (46) who dominated in the Long Jump, 100 metre and 200 metre.

There was a two-way tie for the Under-13 Boys’ title with Raquan Clarke (Hurley) and Jean-Luc Stoute (Williams) coming away with 36 points each. The two played to their strengths to bring up their tallies. Clarke, who was Victor Ludorum last year, took the direct approach with wins in the Cricket Ball Throw, 100 metre and 200 metre for his points. Stoute, on the other hand, had no wins. He was second in the 200 metre and 400 metre events, third in Long Jump and Boys’ Open 800 metre, and a fifth place in the 100 metre brought up his points.
