King, Francis tied on 27 points

Defending champion Ronald King has caught up with Jack Francis three rounds before the end of the Henderson Layne Invitational Memorial draughts tournament.

During bloody Thursday last week, King made quick work of veteran Royland Mapp 2-0 in one of four double wins in the Masters at Best Road, Christ Church.

Francis defeated Winston Lowe 1-0, which meant he surrendered a one-point lead and leaves King and Francis tied on 27 points, although Francis holds the lead technically.

Unbeaten Anthony “Rat” Agard is third on 21 points with Trevor “Gazook” Howell fourth and Sam Marshall fifth, both on 20 points.

On bloody Thursday, Howell defeated Hallam Hope 2-0, earning revenge from a loss last year, Marshall defeated Glyne Howell 2-0 and Junior Walrond defeated Denis Doughlin 2-0.

In the Majors category, leader Carl David holds on to a one-point lead after defeating Anderson Hunte 1-0 on Wednesday.

David has 24 points, defending champion Ryan Eustace is on 23 and Wynell Neverson third on 22 points following her 1-0 victory over Chad Knight. Eustace defeated David Yearwood 1-0.

There were 2-0 victories for Michael Cheeseman over Eric Rice and Michael Weekes against Steve Chase. (HH)
