Keen competition at close of swimming championships

Another record performance for Blackman

Nikoli Blackman closed out the final day of the 2021 Barbados Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) Long course National (LCN) Swimming championships at the Aquatic Centre with yet another record.

The Championships concluded last weekend and Blackman added the Boys 15-17 50m freestyle to his record breaking list. Blackman carved his way through the water to stop the clock at 23.58 secs to replaced Jack Kirby’s 2018 record of 23.68secs. The time was also a Pan Am B qualifying time for that event.

Diego Dulieu  in the boys 15-17 800m freestyle reached the Pan Am B qualifying standard when he clocked 8:39.18.  The current B standard sits at 8:46.85

Danielle Treasure reaffirmed her tie with another B qualifying time in the 15-17 Girls 200m back stroke winning in a time of 2:25.60., the Pan AM B qualifying standard sits at 2:28.83.

A few of the National records were narrowly missed on the final day. Zachary Burke won the Boys 9-10 years 50m freestlye in 30.39 secs and the current record stands at 29.83 secs set in 1994 by Nicholas Mayers.

Kaija Eastmond was just off the girls 8 and under 50m freestyle record winning in 34.62 secs, while the current record stands at 33.23 secs set by Olympian Danielle Titus in 2011.

Sophia Lee was also just off the national record when she won the girls 13-14 50m freestyle in 28.34 secs. In 2013 Sariyah Sherry set the record of 27.76 secs.
