Keen action on Day 2 of Road Tennis World Championships

Antoine ‘Lil Man’ Daniel was the star of the show when the City of Bridgetown Cooperative Credit Union World Road Tennis Championships continued at Springer Memorial School on Thursday.

In the last match of the night, Daniel brought the crowd to life with his spectacular shot selection in his match-up against Gary Thomas.

The two local players took to the main court after an unflattering performance from promising young player Emar Edwards. Edwards easily defeat USA’s Joshua Meza 21-13, 21-15, but the crowd wanted a more active and exciting game, which did not come from these two.

Instead, Edwards opted for a slow pace game where he simply placed the ball back on court rather than showcasing the array of shots which everyone knows he has.

But this was not the case with Daniel, and from the warm-up Thomas knew what he was in for as Daniel whistled a ball down the line for a winner even before the game had started.

The visiting players also took note, clapping and sitting up as Daniel commanded the game from the onset, and in one of the fastest matches of the night – there were no long rallies – Daniel took home the victory 21-17, 21-18.

In the other Open Men’s match Marson Johnson defeated Dwayne Lynch in straight sets 21-13, 21-18; while Kerry ‘TC’ Francis was a in no nonsense mood and quickly dispatched of St. Vincent’s Sean Stanley 21-5, 21-11.

The Masters category featured all Barbadians and Winston Moore was in fine touch as he defeated Adrian ‘Dan’ Skeete 21-17, 21-18. Skeete looked to be the more aggressive of the two players, but most of his shots were spoils and he went down to a composed Moore who never looked troubled.

Rickey ‘Body Doc’ Hoyte defeated Edwin Ward 21-19, 21-14; Lloyd Dean went down to Jeffrey Layne 11-21, 21-10, 17-21; and Christopher Griffith defeated Kurtman Harewood 21-14, 22-20.

In the Juniors, Barbados’ Ezekiel Ward defeated Jamaica’s John Pierre-Daley 21-8, 21-6; while the other games featured all Bajans. Dominique Morris defeated Justin Smith 21-16, 21-19; Shakeem Nurse beat Jadan Batson 21-16, 21-13; and Shaquan Henry came out on top in his game against Dominique Browne 23-21, 21-8.
