Ignatius Byer take home two in Pine Hill competition

Friday was a good day for Ignatius Byer when the Pine Hill National Sports Council Primary Schools Netball Competition came to Speightstown. With the action in the Sonya Knight Zone picking back up, the St. Lucy institution picked up half of the wins in a short day which saw only four games being played.

Ignatius Byer got off to a decent start with a four-nil won over Selah Primary. Not allowing Selah to get off a single shot, Ignatius Byer kept things tight and Shania Boyce scored twice to give her team a two-nil lead by the end of the first half. Boyce, who played at Goal Shoot, went on to finish with four goals from five shots as her partner at the pole, Kristie Griffith was unable to score any of her seven attempts.

The other game saw Ignatius Byer taking on Gordon Greenidge Primary. This time, the story was a bit different as Gordon Greenidge were five-nil losers but not for a lack of trying. Goal Shoot Akera Harewood had three shots but none of them dropped. In the Ignatius Byer camp, it was Griffith’s time to shine as she scored four of eight. Boyce added the other goal from a single shot.

A Dacosta Edwards eased away a one-goal win over St. Alban’s to pick up some much-needed points. With all the goals coming in the first half, Liann Leacock scored St. Alban’s only goal from one shot. On the other side, it was Makayla Boyce that scored two of three shots to give A Dacosta Edwards the win. The other game on the day ended in a keenly-contested draw. Boscobel and St. Alban’s were tied two-all at the end of the first half and four-all at the end of the game. Boscobel made every chance count as Jenia Ross scored three from three and Ashanti Small made the most of her single shot. For St. Alban’s, Leacock shot one of two and Jamika Sanford was good for three of four.
