Horse racing under the lights tomorrow

Tomorrow will be the Barbados Turf Club’s third day of the third racing season for 2020, and seven races have been scheduled to be run at the Garrison Savannah on this very historic night of horse racing. For the first time in the history of racing in Barbados, races will be run under the lights.

They are two feature races on the card, and the first to be run will be race five, the Night Shift Breeders’ Classic for Barbados bred 3-year-olds and older, going 1800 metres.

Nine horses have declared to run, and punters may find it difficult to pick the winner of this one as it is a very competitive race. Gandalf is the top rated horse in the field, but will be giving out a lot of weight to horses such as Jackmanannygap, Good Vibration, Butterfly and Sing Sing.

Race six is the second feature on the card, the Kingly Street Trophy (Handicap) for 3-year-olds and older rated 140 and below, sprinting 1100 metres

The one they will all have to beat is Masaru, the 2020 Sandy Lane Spa Sprint winner, and he has drawn the inside gate and has champion jockey  Rasheed Hughes in the saddle. He is very quick, as is Joshua, Stealing, Debonaire David, and Trini Aviator, which sets up for a very exciting race.

The pre-night ceremony is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the first races is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
