Horse racing continues on Monday

THE first day of the Barbados Turf Club’s second racing season for 2016, gets underway at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow, with an eight race card.

The day’s feature race is race seven, the Betting Booth Staff Trophy (Handicap) for 3-year-olds and older, rated 105 and below, going 1570 metres. Only five horses are declared to start.

The top weight of 128 pounds goes to Lavani. Janak’s Gold takes 127, while Lucky Adventure is allotted 119 pounds.

Post time for race one is 1:50 p.m. where the West Indian Bred 3-year-old Maidens sprint 1000 metres. Trojan, All Bajan and Jack Stewart each take 128 pounds.

Race two is for 3-year-olds rated 20-15, going 1100 metres. The top weight of 129 pounds goes to both Spidey and Lady Nak.

Race 3 is for 3-year-olds and older rated 30-15 and open to apprentice jockeys only. Margarita takes the top weight of 128 pounds in this one, while Blissful takes 124 and Treasure Island 121 pounds.

Race four is for 3-year-olds and older rated 80 and below, going 1100 metres. Returning to racing after almost a 10 month lay off is the crack filly, Poetic Licence, and she is allotted the top weight of 130 pounds. The speedy Hally Rose takes 128, while King’s Meadow takes 125 pounds.

Race five is for 3-year-olds rated 56 and below going 1570 metres. Super Lady takes the top weight of 128 pounds, Strikeawar takes 129, and Captain Hastings 126 pounds.

The final race is for 3-year-olds rated 40 and below, going 1100 metres. Danny Crane is asked to take the top weight of 130 pounds, John Three-Sixteen takes 129, while Dancinwiththestars takes 125 pounds.

This is a very competitive race, and is the only superfecta betting race on the eight race card, and with a big carryover from last race day, some very lucky punters may find themselves with a good dividend. (CH)
