Green runs away with title at Lawrence T Gay Sports

Under overcast skies, Green House dethroned defending champions Red House in an emphatic 386-point performance at the Lawrence T Gay Inter House Sports yesterday at the National Stadium.

 

Before the relays, Green House was already well ahead of second place Red by more than 50 points. The winning house came home first in four of the eight relays to finish first; while Red won three, stepping over the line at the end of the day with 330 points. Third place was taken by Blue House while Yellow was fourth with 186.

 

The ‘goldware’ did not stop there for Green as they carried away the top Boy’s honors – with U-13 Adrian Maynard writing his name in the history books, along with U-9 Keshawn Burnett tying on 48 points to share the Victor Ludorum title. 

 

Maynard won the 200m, 400m, 800m and the Long Jump; while Burnett also took home gold in each event he competed in, winning the 80m, 100, 150 and Long Jump events. 

 

The top girl of the championships for the third year running was U-11 Tonika Griffith of Red House, eclipsing her shared 50 point performance last year with a massive 55 day yesterday. Victrix Ludorum Griffith claimed gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m and placed second in the Long Jump. She had the best overall competition on the day.

 

U-13 Girl Tiana Morris was fast on the day for Green House, winning all her events to amass a total of 48 points to win the her divisional title. Zahir Niles grabbed yet another piece of hardware for the triumphant Green House as he was the top boy in the U-11 Boys’ category with 38 points. The U-9 Girls’ Champion was Dwanesha Hoyte of Red, who tore down the track with her long strides to rack up 26 points at the end of the day. 

 

The smallest of the small in the U-7 Division saw Yellow take all the honours with Danielle Harris and Nathan Rouse running their hearts out to finish with 12 points each. (AS)
