Goal fest in Junior football tourney

THERE was a goalfest at the recent games of the National Junior Football Tournament with 28 goals scoring from a mere six games.

The biggest margin of victory came as St. Philip South handed St. George North a 9-0 drumming at Brereton.

Amazingly, there were six different goalscorers as everyone wanted to get on the scoreboard.

First to open the flood-gates was Jazz Gittens, who with only three minutes on the clock found the back of the nets.

Kemshon Wilkinson added to the tally in the 7th and 18th minute. Akeil Lorde got in on the action in the 15th minute, while Gittens returnedin the 26th to add to the growing tally.

There were goals all the way to the end as Tyrese Crawford scored in the 37th minute, and Tyreque Nurse scored in the 53rd and 55th minute, before Damario Moore put the icing on the cake in the 56th minute.

Also at Brereton, St. Philip West and St. John played to a 1-1 draw; while St. Philip North defeated St. Joseph 3-0 thanks to goals from Shakeel Alleyne in the 8th and 54th, and Shaved Maynard in the 12th minute.

The other high-scoring game was played at Passage Road as St. Michael South hammered St. Thomas 8-0.

Unlike St. Philip South, the goals were shared between three players from St. Michael South and they were Kevon Lucas who scored in the 13th; a hat trick from Winston Maynard who scored in the 5th, 23rd, and 51st; and with a beaver trick was Shakeem Boyce with goals in the 14th, 15th, 37th and 57th minute.

Other games at Passage Road saw St. Michael South Central edging out St. Michael East 1-0, and St. Michael South East defeating City 4-1.
