Foundation United Darien Seale (6) going up against the Progressive blocks

Foundation United upsets Progressive

Foundation United turned in a surprising performance to upset favourites Barbados Bearing & W Gittens Landscaping Progressive in five sets on Wednesday at the Kensington Bond.

The two teams met in the last of the double header to get the men’s side of the Barbados Volleyball Association’s Goddard Enterprises Division One League going.
What many thought would have been an easy walkover for Progressive turned into a five set defeat as Progressive was more than a bit rusty and it showed on court.
Countless spikes thundered into the net on their side of the court and they also had a few problems at the setter position as well.

Foundation United took advantage of this and at one point when Progressive struggled in the decisive fifth set, the rattle off five unanswered points to come from behind and take the lead.

From the onset Progressive should have known they were in for a fight as Foundation United took the first set down to the wire before Progressive was able to sneak across the line and win 29-27.

However with the struggles of Progressive, Foundation took the next two sets 25-21, 26-24 led by Darian Seale and Shamar Bishop.

It looked as though Progressive had found some kind of rhythm in the fourth set to force the fifth and final set as they won 25-23.

But after switching sides with the lead, Progressive went into a slump. Going to their normally dependable attacker in Fabian Cox, did not work out for as his attacks were off and Foundation began to surge ahead to take the lead and win the set 15-13.

In the first game Flow Deacons cruised to a straight set victory over All Stars 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.
