Ellerton whipped again

THE baptism of fire continues for Ellerton as they were held to a second 16-nil loss at the hands of the National Sports Council (NSC) this season. When the Barbados Football Association’s Women’s League continued this past weekend at Friendship, the defending champions offered no quarter as they passed on another tough lesson to the debutantes.

The NSC ladies were led by a sound seven-goal haul from national player Shanice Stevenson as they tore into an Ellerton side, which continues to show marked improvement as the tournament progresses. Kimberly Ellis opened the account in the fourth minute against a nine-man Ellerton, while Stevenson had back-to-back goals in the 15th and 18th.

Tianna Hackett ended the evening with four goals and got her first in the 24th before Stevenson added another in the 30th. Hackett was back at it again inside the very next minute while Stevenson knocked home her fourth. The Stevenson/Hackett show was punctuated by two goals from Kamillah Burke, who netted on either side of the break in the 38th and 51st. Ellerton, now up to ten players, fared no better as Hackett scored again in the 59th. The show took a break again as Rhea Howard, who usually wears a goalkeeper jersey, switched out her kit and came off the bench to score in the 63rd and 68th.

Hackett closed out her beaver-trick in the 70th to give way to Stevenson, who scored three more times before the final whistle went. She rocked the nets in the 76th, 83rd and 88th minutes.

In the night-cap game, Eden Stars Football Club Unity Stars were pushed back down to fifth place in the standings after going four goals to one to Mavericks Women. Felicia Jarvis was the most dangerous player in the exchange as she came away with a hat-trick after goals in the 19th, 43rd and 48th minutes. Unity Stars were able to pull one back in the 80th through Nicole Parris, but that was overshadowed by a cracker from Hannisha Hoyte in the very next minute.

The evening’s first game saw Kick Start Genesis edging out Technique by a single goal. Christaline Chandler put Genesis on first in the 32nd minute, however, Nadia Bretney had Technique level again in the 41st. Tiana Bynoe gave Kick Start the game winner in the 85th.
