Eden Lodge keep a clean sheet in Herman Griffith tourney

Although it was only by three wickets, Eden Lodge took their fifth win on the trot to keep their record clean in the 2016 edition of the Guardian Group Herman Griffith Primary Schools Cricket Competition.

Playing on Friday at home, the 2013 losing finalists beat George Lamming after successfully knocking off a target of 32 runs for victory.

George Lamming stumbled their way to 31 under duress from Kyron King (3-12), Romario Forde (4-6) and Raheim Holder (2-12). In their chase, the hosts lost seven wickets on the way to 32 with King top-scoring with 12. George Lamming had a commendable bowling effort with Akeem McCollin taking four wickets for 12 runs and Jaden Mayers picking up three for ten.

Over at Inch Marlow, Vauxhall Primary had similar luck over St. Paul’s, successfully chasing down 73 for the loss of seven in 18 overs. St. Paul’s were in first and made 72 in 15 overs before being bowled out. Antonio Hamilton was valuable with the ball snagging four scalps for eight runs while Quami McGlean was good for three for eight. When Vauxhall went in to chase, McGlean struck 42 on the way to the total, with Devonte Chapman (2-10) having the best bowling figures for St. Paul’s.

Things were a bit closer for Belmont and Bay Primary when the two met up at Blenheim. Belmont went in to the crease first and Michael Brown (31), Raheem Pierre (10) and Jaheem Williams (14) put in most of the work on the way to 119 for eight. They were unable, however, to defend the runs as Bay Primary rolled to 120 for the same eight wickets. It was a team effort as only Raziel Lopez (24) made it into double figures.

Despite losing, Belmont had the better individual efforts with the bat and the ball, as Jason Nurse took three for 28 and Pierre had two for 30.

A 24-run win in the favour of St. Bernard’s was the result when they went to Farmers to see the challenge of Hillaby Turner’s Hall. St. Bernard’s batted first and made it to 90/8 in 20 overs through the diligence of Zico Reynolds (24) and Lamar Goodridge (22). It was not smooth sailing as Azari Maynard, Jaquan Benskin and Kaydon Marshall bowled 4-12, 2-18 and 2-13 respectively. Hillaby’s Azan Brewster (13) and Maynard (18) led the charge but they could only make it to 66 for the loss of seven, while Taquon Hinkson picked three wickets for 14 runs.

After rolling through their first five games of the season unbeaten, Wesley Hall finally met their match and went down by six wickets in a hard-fought game against St. Giles Primary.

The defending champions were in first and the entire order was back in the pavilion after 24 overs with 71 runs to show for it. Zachary Alexander top-scored with 20 not-out while Achebe Culpepper had 11.

Coming off the only century this year, Edwin Barnett Jr. was sent back in for ten runs. Rashon Gamble bowled four for 11 while Kishen Ram had three for seven for St. Giles.

For St. Giles Sanchez Reid-Haynes was the man to pitch in with 24 on the way to 72/4 in 23 overs. Kevion Newton did his best to keep Wesley Hall in the game and he took two scalps for eight runs.
