Drakes, Hunte winners of BGA 48th Anniversary Tournament

Frank Drakes and Livingston Hunte are celebrating as winners of the Barbados Golf Association’s (BGA) 48th anniversary better-ball tournament.

Drakes and Hunte posted a net 63 at the Barbados Golf Club on Saturday, to clip Tom O’Sullivan and Gabriel Kelly (net 64) by a stroke and emerge champions.
Two strokes behind the winners, and in third place, were Roger Bryan and BGA President Trevor Tasker with a net 65. They too were narrow winners over Chris DeCaires and Sunil Chatrani on the count-back system.

Thirty-five teams, or 70 players, contested the two-ball-better-ball tournament in sunny conditions where the best score on each hole was counted.

Also among the prizes were Leiza Munn-Blakeley, winner of longest drive for women on Hole No.5, and Manuel Soudant, who took the equal prize for men on Hole No.11. Paige Bailey won the closest-to-pin prize, as he flopped his tee-shot within two feet of the flag on Hole No.10.

Following the event, BGA President Trevor Tasker thanked all players for participating and praised staff of the Barbados Golf Club for providing a course in good shape.

He also disclosed that the final two events on the BGA’s calendar for 2017 are the RBC Classic, on November 25 and 26, and the President’s Putter in December at Royal Westmoreland.
