Deacons and Chargers undefeated

Omega XL Deacons men’s team handed Cawmere their second defeat when the Barbados Volleyball Association's Goddard Enterprises limited Senior Knock Out tournament continued at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium on Sunday.

Deacons, who are thus far undefeated in the tournament, battled from a set down and at one stage was fighting to keep the game alive when they slipped behind 2-1 in the match.

It was in the fourth set that the tables turned as Deacons crushed Cawmere 25-9 and then edged them out in a see-saw battle to win 20-25, 25+23, 24-26, 25-9, 23-21.

Also keeping their winning streak alive in the men’s Division was Chargers, who were in even deeper trouble than Deacons.

Chargers fell behind by two sets 2-0, which meant each set was a do-or-die after that.

But it was as though Progressive had taken their foot off the gas as Chargers eventually took the game to five sets and won 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-11.

In the battle of the winless teams thus far it was All Stars who added a win to their name when they defeated Foundation United 25-20, 25-22, 27-29,14-25,15-13.

Pan American Life Insurance Warrens Sports Club ended Chargers’ winning streak with a 3-2 victory.

Warrens had to fight from two sets down 19-25, 21-25 to power their way home and win the final three sets 25-20, 25-22, 15-13.

However Deacons kept their streak alive winning their fourth game on the trot when they defeated UWI 11-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 15-10.
UWI are yet to win a game along with Toners who suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of The Club United 25-17 ,25-23, 25-23.
Games are slated to continue today at Oldsbury. (CG)
