A Dacosta clinch spot in BICO playoffs

A Dacosta Edwards Primary were fortunate to secure a spot in Zone 3 of the BICO National Sports Council Primary Schools Football Competition after pulling out a draw in their final game of the preliminary round. Going up against Hillaby Turner’s Hall yesterday at Shorey Village, A Dacosta advances on virtue of goal-difference as the two teams finished on the same points. With Rashawn Brewster scoring for Hillaby, the ‘winning’ goal came from Kydaine Worrell.

In Zone 5, Ellerton put in some work at home to amass some much-needed points to see themselves into contention for a spot in the playoffs. A single goal against Workman’s Primary gave them a victory to see them into second place with three games in-hand. Delano Allsopp scored the game-winner. Also playing at Ellerton, Providence beat out Hill Top Preparatory, three goals to two to take home points. Logan Morne, Evan Harrison and Spencer Haslett all scored to trump a brace from Joshua Waithe.

Still in Zone 5, St. George Primary took a massive haul against St. John Primary to keep their dreams of a spot alive. A hat-trick from Nicholas Hoyte, a brace from Diego Fenty and an own-goal brought up six unanswered goals for St. George when the two met up at Greens. Also at Greens, group leaders, Bay Primary whipped Cuthbert Moore, five goals to one. Delano Callender was responsible for Cuthbert Moore’s consolation while Amir Gustave (3) and Kemar Butler (2) rocked the nets for the winners. Over at Gall Hill, Mount Tabor took a one-nil win over St. Jude’s thanks to Dashad Parris.

Briar Hall was a hive of activity as Zone 7 action continued. Milton Lynch continue to lead the pack and took a three-one win over St. Lawrence to solidify their position. Rishon Roach scored twice and Tekyle Alleyne added a third while Kale Garnett gave St. Lawrence their goal. Former champions, St. Gabriel’s got their hands on a big win to keep them in the running. Facing off with St. Christopher’s, the sides were locked at one-all before St. Gabriel’s pulled away to a four-one win. Justin Forde was able to find an equaliser for St. Christopher’s but goals from Aydan Alleyne and Wesley Moseley and a brace from Jelani Gillins set up St. Gabriel’s for victory.

Earlier in the day, St. Angela’s blanked Vauxhall by two goals. Jean-Paul Prescod and Jalen Johnson both scored one each, which Vauxhall had no replies for. The result was similar when St. Winifred’s and Will’s met up at the venue. Lance Clermont and Adrian Moore both scored to make it two-nil in St. Winifred’s favour.

In the North, Ignatius Byer was busy taking a four-one win from St. Lucy Primary in Zone 1. Dontae Scantlebury was good for a hat-trick and he was backed up by Devonte Boyce, while Shomario Licorish gave St. Lucy their lone goal. At the other end of the island, Bayley’s and Blackman and Gollop were racking up points in Zone 8. Bayley’s took a two-nil win over St. Martin’s Mangrove while group-leaders, Blackman and Gollop decimated Gordon Walters, five goals to none. Nathan Sealy, Nicholas McKenne and Marqus Lovell (3) were the scorers.

The competition continues today with games at Blenheim, Passage Road, the National Stadium and King George V Park.
