Christ Church East Central off to flying start

There was a goal-fest as nine goals were scored when the 2016 David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic kicked off on Sunday with the opening ceremony and two games at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

Defending Champions Christ Church East Central got things going in superb fashion as they hammered St. Michael North West 5-0.

Jabarry Chandler hit home a hat trick, one of which came from the penalty spot.

But it was Jamal Chandler who stole the spotlight with a goal worthy of any highlights in the world.

With the game still locked at 0-0, Jamal struck a diagonal ball with his left foot which curled around the goalkeeper and into the goal. This goal came in the 24th minute.
The bombardment by the defending champions continued and they missed countless opportunities to increase their advantage.

However in the second half they made them count.

With some impressive passing which clearly showed that they had been working as a unit, Christ Church East Central made things look easy as Darian King, Jamal Chandler and Jabarry Chandler combined to make things more than difficult for the defense of St. Michael Northwest.

Their defense finally cracked with Jabarry slotting home his first of three goals in the 52nd.

A rebound off an attempt by Jamal gave Jabarry his second goal in the 75th before the penalty came when St. Michael North West fouled Tyrell Gibbons in the box in the 83rd.
The other goal came from a deflection from Rashad Brooks into his own goal.

In the second game of the evening St. John opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half with some perfect placement by Ramario Harewood in the 22nd minute.

But that was the last goal the team would score as St.Michael South Central came storming back to score three times in the second half.

Scoring were Walton Burrowes equalizer in the 55th minute, Corey Barrow in the 68gth and Elsid Miggins in the 89th.

The teams are playing for a first place prize of $30 000 in the tournament slated to finish in November. (CG)
