Cheshire tour to bowl off this Sunday

THE age-old rivalry between Barbados and England is set to be struck back up from this weekend as the 2018 Cheshire Tour is hosted by the Barbados Polo Club. With the club’s international season well under way having seen successful tours by the Villages, the Battle of the Sexes and the Canadians, a year’s worth of bragging rights are on the line as Howard Taylor and his clan go up against some of the best players in Barbados.

With four games slated over the next week, the first clash is scheduled for this Sunday at Holders. The tour is set to get started with a bang as local and visiting polo fans will be treated to a 10-goal feature match. With the Cheshire team boasting a few three-goal players and a four-goaler, Barbados will have to bring the big guns if they intend to keep the challenge trophy at home.

With the second game in the series to be played at Apes Hill on Tuesday, the action returns to Holders on Thursday and Sunday. On the latter day, Cheshire are rumoured to be sporting a 12-goal team, one of the highest to play on the island for the season.

With the Taylors already on island, all and sundry are getting their swinging arms warm ahead of Sunday’s first game, which is expected to draw its usual massive following. Loads of attractions await spec-tators on the final day, which usually sees the winner of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup bringing the hallowed trophy along as they take in some of the best polo on offer for the season.
