Chase and Hetmyer reach fitness standard

Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer have met the minimum fitness requirement and are eligible for selection in West Indies.

This was the news the Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams announced yesterday at a press conference however they will have to wait for the next selection meeting which will be for the Test series against Sri Lanka as the limited overs team has already been named.

The duo were among four players who the Cricket West Indies announced had failed the fitness requirement when the limited overs squad was being selected.

But have recently met that threshold and will be considered for the Test series.

The fitness criteria has been the focus of attention for the last few days when it was announced that the players had failed to reach the minimum standard.

But even veteran Chris Gayle mentioned that the fitness requirement isn’t anything new as it was around for some time.

Before the announcement Gayle said that it was unfortunate he (Hetmyer) was out of squad but it was up to him (Hetmyer) if he really wants to represent West Indies and want to help.

Gayle said that Hetmyer was a talent and hopefully things can work out “…and these guys take it seriously as these guys are the future and we need him and we don’t want to lose such a talent in the region”.

The announcement came at the end of the press conference with Gayle. (CG)
