Challengers win juniors battle in overtime

Challengers Sports Club Juniors took down Roberts Royals Juniors in overtime 70-65 in an exciting game at the Culloden in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division Competition.

It was a 7 point come back in the second half which got them back into the game after being down 18-25 at the half. They only scored in double digits in the second quarter which allowed the Royals to pick stretch the narrow 3 point lead to 7.

The comeback started on the heels of a Nicholas Collymore 3-pointer. Adrian Fowler followed his lead with 8 of his 15 points coming in the third and fourth quarter while Ramon Ward who had been playing well all game scored 10 of his 18 in the same periods. But it was a last
3-pointer by Collymore which tied the game 56 all at the end of regulation which gave Challengers a chance at the come from behind win.

Ward read Collymore’s script and hit two timely three’s in overtime to help the Challengers stick with Royals. It was not over as Todd Bourne and Jason Reeves were stroking from the field, scoring 4 points each in overtime. What it came down to was Adrian Fowler coming up clutch with ice in his veins, hitting 4 straight free throws to seal the deal for his team and get them to the finish line.

Royals played well but the three pronged attack of Collymore, Fowler and Ward in the second half and overtime was a little too much to combat. Ward ended the game with a team high 18 points while Fowler and Collymore both added 15 points. For the Royals team, Bourne had a great night with a game high 21 points, unfortunately in a losing effort. He was backed up well by Jason Reeves with 19 points and Andrew Brewster and Dwayne Blackman both finished with 7 points each. (AS)
