BVTB dismiss League 1’s Harrison College

Harrison College gave up a lead to give way to the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) as they made their way out of the Coca Cola Barbados Secondary Schools’ Football League Under-19 Knockout Cup.
After meeting up with the seemingly unstoppable side on their home turf at Crumpton Street, the League 1 lads crumbled under the pressure put down by the League 2 leaders when the two clashed on Wednesday evening.

The hosts started by tipping the scales in their favour just 11 minutes into the exchange. HC captain Reymar Walters was proving problematic for the visitors on the left flank on each advance, and this particular time he moved the ball through the middle before taking a long shot along the ground. Making its way through a bit of traffic, the ball rolled to the corner of the goal and out through a hole in the side of the net.

The hosts were unable to capitalise on any other opportunities and allowed BVTB to bounce back. Just eight minutes later, the visiting side drew level when tournament top-scorer Kavian Inniss was fed right through the middle with a long lob. Pulling slightly to the left before finishing with a shot to the other side of an advancing custodian, Inniss began his journey to a fifth hat-trick in his team’s debut season in the competition.

Although he was putting in much work in the midfield, BVTB captain Rickneco Marshall was unable to get himself a goal from the field. He did, however, credit himself with the conversion of a penalty when the HC boys gifted them one in the 26th. Inniss continued his tirade in the 34th when a cross was made to him out on the left inside the 18. Moving across the penalty area, he pulled three markers before letting off a right-booted shot past a diving Ahijah Hill.

The gaps in the nets came into question in the 40th minute as Inniss found himself on the attack again. Drawing the keeper off his line and beating him in the process, Inniss put a rolling shot on target from just before the penalty spot, however, a defender was able to get a boot on it. With the nets in poor shape, there were mixed feelings about the legitimacy of the goal that was awarded.

The second half would remain uneventful as neither side was able to score despite coming painfully close at both ends.
