Bumblebees dominating Xmas Charity tourney

Unbeaten so far in “The People’s Tournament” hosted by the Premium Academic and Sports Academy (PASA), the Yellow Bumblebees extended the win streak to 3-0 after taking down the Green Grasshoppers 91-71.

Lead by top class player Deroni Hurley with 25 points, the Bumblebees never looked phased on the St. Michael School court. Hurley went for 8 points, tag teaming the Grasshoppers with fellow guard Dijon Hunte with 7 and giving the Bumblebees the 23-14 first quarter lead. The second quarter got worse for the hopper squad, as they gave up a whopping 30 points in the period. Hurley scored 10 more points in the quarter but Adriel Brathwaite joined in with 11 to keep the Green Grasshoppers at bay, down 22, 53-31 at the half.

It was not only smooth flying for the Bumblebees, Kyrone Alexander made sure of that. Alexander put up 10 of his game high 26 points in the third to bring his side within 11, 66-55 with one quarter to go. Unfortunately for the Green boys, they pulled the tail of the Bumblebees and got stung yet again.

Dijon Hunte led the charge with 9 points and six other Bumblebee players got on the scoresheet pushing the lead right back up. Only Anthony Maynard got going for the Grasshoppers in the final quarter with a couple moves to the basket but it was not even close to mounting a run for the win. Anthony Maynard finished with 13 while Primus Walrond added 20 behind Alexander. Brathwaite scored 21 and Hunte had 19 for the Bumblebees. (AS)
